Get off the beaten path with Serendipity 4 wheel drive
What river! See if the tour bus follows us now!
The best way to experience Costa Rica is to get away from the tour bus beaten path. Serendipity traverses Costa Rica with 4x4 vehicles (mainly Toyota Land Cruisers) which are both rugged and extremely comfortable, with legroom and wide shoulder space. The big wheels and oversize tires mean we have access to places tourist vans and small wheels can't cross: rivers and dirt roads, off-road pleasures into areas the tour buses, mini-vans, and cars simply cannot imagine.
Costa Rican roads are built to a much lower standard than American roads. There is one highway (the Pan-American highway), which is only two lanes wide for most of its duration, has few guard rails and reflectors to mark the side of the road, and is subject to mud and rock slides. And that's the best road in the country. Most country roads are dirt or mud, or were paved before the high annual rainfall caused a rock fall or an earthquake cracked the pavement.
Only the busiest roads in Costa Rica approach the quality of most American roads. Using 4WD vehicles allows you to see the rest of the country, where the road quality can be deceptively rough.
Since we have the way to get there, the 4x4's literally persuade our guides and adventure leaders to use them — to go out and explore, to find the places that everyone else neglects because there's no paved access. Find the real Costa Rica, where the locals still use horses because the roads aren't good enough for most cars. Find the real adventure, where you're away from the crowds.
With Serendipity Adventure's 4WD vehicles, you'll be able to go places the tour groups can't visit.
That is what we share with you — our discoveries, our special places.
When it comes to accessibility to a more natural world, to villages and off the tourism-paved route, it can be the difference between seeing a quetzal and reading about it in a book.
It also allows you to get some places you really didn't want to reach. And for this we have our winch (or a friendly farmer).
We're touching the REAL Costa Rica, the land where big SUV's are not city cars, where potholes and the innocent appearance of puddles take on whole new meaning.
