Costa Rica's Time Zone

The sun sets behind Arenal volcano.

The length of days in Costa Rica varies by only half an hour from season to season, so Costa Rica does not observe daylight savings time.

The current time in Costa Rica is:

The length of days in Costa Rica varies by only half an hour between seasons, so Costa Rica does not observe daylight savings time. All of Costa Rica is in the GMT -6 zone, which corresponds to U.S. Central Time during winter months, and U.S. Mountain Time when the U.S. is in daylight savings time.

Costa Rica is currently in Mountain Daylight Time.

Costa Rica has (plus or minus 1/2 hour) 12 hours of sunshine and 12 hours of night each day, with sunrise (about 5:30 AM) and sunset changing only about 15 minutes over the course of the calendar year (remember where we are on the face of the planet -- about 10 degrees north of the equator). The concept of "saving" daylight is pretty hard for the average Costa Rican to understand. Also remember that all of Costa Rica is EAST of Tallahassee, Florida, and half the year our time zone is like Kansas City or Denver... so it's no wonder sunrise is so early, and sunset is early, too.

Serendipity guide Alfonso is outstanding - knowledgeable, patient, caring, humorous, organized, insightful! Can you tell I think he's great? What an asset to Serendipity. He made the trip so memorable. The local "helpers" (guides) were also excellent - Jaime, Beto, Eric & Gustavo, Raf and Fernando. They were all personable and helpful.

Alfonso was very willing to stop whenever we wanted to take a picture or check out monkeys in the trees. His eyes are sharp - he spotted a sloth for us.

The JURASSIC tour provided a nice variety of activities. Within the structure of the tour there was flexibility - spend more time here, do this hike instead of that. The all-inclusive aspect of the tour was a definite plus - laundry, snacks, soft drinks, bottled water, etc. The food was excellent at the hotel, and wherever Alfonso took us.

Keep up the good work and keep quality people (like Alfonso, and the others in your company).
