Costa Rica with an attractive mix of adventure and relaxation: A total of eight days; 5 fully guided days exploring inland rainforest, and 3 days on your own relaxing at the beach. Designed as a honeymoon in Costa Rica for a very adventurous pair of newlyweds, this trip offers challenges and excitement for the young and active, and it does also work very well for families.

In this trip you’ll enjoy volcano exploration, thermal hot springs, tree climbing, float trip for nature watching, hiking and relaxation at a beautiful beach.

Start with a few days of fully guided adventure and end your trip with a few days on your own relaxing at the beach. Your guide will make sure you are all checked in and have your feel of the beach area prior to your his departure. Don’t worry, we have scheduled your transfer back to the airport.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Costa Rica and go straight to the Arenal volcano region

Your Serendipity guide will be waiting for you as soon as you exit the Airport. Look for a yellow paddle in the air! From here you will head straight to the northern plains where  the Arenal volcano is located. Our favorite lodging in this area is a well-kept property, with a privileged location away from where most tourists go. Here nature lovers find a truly unique opportunity to spot wildlife. Iguana heaven. The hotels property line is bordered by a river and other than attracting many birds, there are also crocodiles catching the sun.

Day 2: TREE CLIMBING

We’re in the heart of the Northern Zone, mainly famous for the Arenal volcano and the hot springs, but there is so much more here. We will take you on a short hike in the forest and then retract in time to when you were just a little kid… when climbing a tree was top priority. Except this time it’s a bit more complex. Harness and carabiners and pulleys and anchors. Joseph is our strangler fig, that stands tall and proud in the middle of the dense rain forest. You get to climb thru his core.
Afterwards, we’ll also ascend Abraham, our ceiba tree that has seen more sunsets and more full moons than we ever will. You get to ascend to a secure platform 110 feet above the jungle floor to explore the rainforest from tree top level. We’ll get you something to eat and drink up there, and we can stay for a few hours before rappelling down.

Day 3: Hiking on volcanic trails. La Fortuna

Hiking is on the schedule for today, and there are different routes to choose from. We can explore the lava rock trails around the Arenal volcano or do a more strenous hike between Arenal and Cerro Chato. In both cases we’ll have the opportunity to learn a lot about volcanos and the surrounding environment.

Day 4: Float Trip for Nature watching.

Today we’ll head further north to explore Rio Frio on inflatable boats equipped with silent electrical motors. This is the best way to get close to wildlife since we won’t scare away the animals as the larger motor boats do. We’ll also bring a stand up paddle board for those who want to try it.. a great way of making your way down the river by your own strength!

Day 5: Rain Forest – Hiking or inner tubing on the way to the beach

The valley of Bijagua, a destination that has managed to go unnoticed for a while but that is quickly picking up speed, a small valley nestled between 3 volcanos. Celeste River is born when two springs meet. Each bringing a mineral from deep within the earth. When they unite, the resulting color is electrifying. Hiking to the source of the Celeste river is a naturalists dream, about 5 miles of jungle, with volcanic fumaroles bubbling through mud. Another option for today is to do a journey on a small river in innertubes
After the adventure we continue on to the Pacific, where the coast line is framed by its deep blue waters. Stop and take it all in.
Say goodbye to your Serendipity adventure leader, now your friend… you get to relax and enjoy the beach by yourselves.

Day 6: The beach, let the ocean inspire you.

You tell us what activity you envision and we will help you find the best operator in town. Surf, standup paddle or perhaps ocean kayak? And what about some action on four wheels, ATVs are always a great choice while at the beach.

Day 7: The beach – Last day in Paradise

One last day to work on that tan! Make everyone jealous when you get back home! Did you get a chance to learn how to surf, or at least get a few bruises and scrapes in the attempt? Did you take that deep sea fishing tour that you have longed for your whole life? Did you snorkel with the dolphins? Do it now! There is no moment like this moment.

Day 8: Return home

It has been real, and it has been fun. But all must come to an end, and today we say goodbye. Goodbye to this beautiful country, and to its beautiful people. This trip has left engraved in us all this soul-deep memories and feelings. You will now smile every time you hear our name. Serendipity happens, and it happens best while you are in Costa Rica.
You’ll be driven to San José or Liberia this morning, to catch your international flight.

This is your trip with your departure dates. We do not add you to a set itinerary, combine you with other people, or suggest that other people join your trip.
