1. You Can Still Enjoy the Sunshine

Costa Rica has a tropical climate, meaning that rain will likely appear at some point during your trip (even when you are visiting during the dry season!). The good news is that the country is home to dozens of microclimates, which offer pockets of sunshine even during the rainiest months.

2. Hotel Rates are Lower in Rainy Season

Hotels lower their nightly rates during the rainy season in Costa Rica. This can mean that the exact same itinerary can cost significantly less by visiting between May and November. Plus, you do not have to plan as far in advance. During the ‘high season’ of December to April, we start arranging trips often a year in advance to guarantee rooms in recommended hotels.

3. Popular Tourist Hotspots Will Not Be Crowded

During the dry season, the most popular places to visit in Costa Rica will have more tourists. This is not surprising, these iconic spots are incredibly beautiful and certainly worth including on your vacation ‘checklist’. The advantage of traveling during the rainy season is that you will not need to share them with quite as many other people.

4. Everything will be Green during Rainy Season in Costa Rica

On arrival to Costa Rica, visitors delight in just how lush and green the country is. Rainforest and cloud forest stretches as far as the eye can see. Without the rainy season, the wonderful green would turn brown, the rivers would go dry, waterfalls disappear, and the mountains would become barren of birds, butterflies, and monkeys.

In the rainy season, the water levels rise as does the thrill and challenge of navigating the whitewater rapids! Sounds like fun?
