7 Days of Serendipity Adventures

Costa Rica is often cited as the adventure tourism capital of the world. At Serendipity Adventures, we offer some of the most unique and off the beaten track experiences that you can find in this small but mighty Central American country. We take a look at just some of the activities you can try on your Costa Rica vacation…

Mondays are for Mountain Biking

Mountain biking to a waterfall in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has exceptional mountain biking, from rugged mountain 4×4 tracks to gentle downhill. Serendipity Adventures has explored bike routes all over Costa Rica, so you have numerous choices on what you can try… from deep forest cover to spectacular open views; from isolated jungle trails to inter-village pathways; from nearly vertical mountains to flatter, more open spaces; from gentle ups and downs to solid, hair-raising descents; from beaches to volcanoes to rivers to forests; from 3 hours to 9 days. Looking for an experience on four wheels? Take a look at our ATV adventures.

Tuesdays are for Tree Climbing

Young girl tree climbing in Costa Rica

We have taken this childhood pastime to the next level in the primary rainforest of Costa Rica. Climb through the center of our giant strangler tree, Joseph, to emerge into the canopy and rappel down the trunk. Then meet Abraham, an ancient tree more than 400 years old towering more than 150 feet above the rainforest floor. Don’t believe you can make the climb? We have many ways of getting you up there, with some help from your Serendipity Adventures leader, and some inventions we’ve made. Heck, we can even get your wheelchair up there, too. You’ll be rewarded with incredible views while eating lunch in the treetops.

Wednesdays are for Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater rafting in Costa Rica

In Costa Rica, you can raft down some of the best whitewater in the world. With Serendipity Adventures, the big difference is that we run the river for you only and your companions. We have our own rafts, ranging from heavier boats for kids and grandparents, regular rafts, to Duckies or a Mini-me (a three-person sports boat) for adrenaline junkies. We specialize in the Pacuare, Sarapiquí, and Pejibaye rivers. For guests on a multi-day trip down the Pacuare, our luxury campsite is backdropped by the most spectacular of mountain rainforests, which we’ll also explore, on foot and with ropes and harnesses, as only an expeditionary group can do it.

Thursdays are for Tarzan Swinging

The thrill of whizzing through the tree canopy is why ziplining is frequently at the top of many visitors’ lists when planning a Costa Rica vacation. This activity has evolved to include even more adrenaline-evoking moments, such as tarzan swinging, quick jumps, and superman ziplines. We regularly include canopy tours in our private trips, but for those real adventure seekers, you can add canyoning and waterfall rappelling to your itinerary! Our guests come away from this experience having accomplished something thrilling, challenging, and that they never believed was possible for them.

Fridays are for Floating

Family on a safari float in Costa Rica

Safari on the river with us. Climb aboard our little boats and we’ll take you to the most nature-filled rivers in the country, without the crowds and noisy motors and tour buses. The boats are funny to look at but extraordinarily comfortable to ride in. Dangle your feet in the river. Snack on fresh fruit. Lay back and put your feet up and let nature come to you. We can slip under the overhanging branches to see Trogon nests. Or catch glimpses of the hatchlings of Cayman making their first entry into the water. And the monkeys — they hardly acknowledge that you are there. In only a few hours, you will realize the importance of preserving this habitat, for its own sake, not just for the enjoyment or brief pleasure of spectators.

Saturdays are for Sea Kayaking

Couple sea kayaking in Costa Rica

There are many places in Costa Rica that are best experienced from the serenity of a sea kayak. Whether it be paddling your way through the famous canals and estuaries of Tortuguero National Park, island hopping across the Gulf of Nicoya, or exploring the warm waters of the Golfo Dulce or the Caribbean coast, a sea kayak can add an extra dimension to your journey and get you to places you cannot reach by road. Looking to get off-the beaten track on land? We also run horseback riding adventures to climb mountain trails where only two- or four-legged creatures can go.

Sundays are for Surfing

…and Sailing, Stand-up Paddling, and more! The possibilities are endless with Serendipity Adventures. Every itinerary is customized for each client so they experience the best vacation tailored exactly to what they enjoy. We don’t run one-off day trips for groups, where you scrape the surface of what this beautiful country has to offer. We create unique vacations that immerse you in the adventure, culture, and nature of Costa Rica. Above are just some of the activities that are possible on a trip with us. Don’t see an experience listed that you wish to include? Take a look at some of the other activities we offer.
